Structural Ipe Wood TilesIpe wood tiles create durable and inspiring raised decks
Construct natural and strong wood decks over sloping or uneven surfaces easily with Architrex structural wood deck tiles designed for elevated decks on rooftops, courtyards, terraces, pool decks and patios. Unlike SwiftDeck tiles with an interlocking base that lies directly on a surface like concrete, flat rooftop membranes, or old wood decking, structural deck tiles are constructed with solid wood bearers and are designed for laying on fixed height rubber pads or adjustable height pedestals, supported only under each corner of the tile.
These 24”x24” (nom.) tiles get their impressive strength from Ipe wood harvested in Peru under FSC Chain of Custody (certification details can be supplied on request). They are constructed with 13/16” Ipe wood slats screwed to wood support battens using stainless steel screws.
In some urban regions wood is no longer permitted or is greatly restricted for use in constructing rooftop decks due to fire hazards. Although Ipe wood has an impressive Class A fire rating, if you live in such an area and wish to have a wood deck, consider Architrex amazing line of porcelain pavers offered in 8’x1’ planks, 2’x2’ slabs and 48”x18” short planks for unique and elegant design options that closely resemble real wood varieties such as Maple, Oak, Nut and Kauri. The beauty of ‘Wood Look’ porcelain pavers is they give the elegance of natural wood, yet they are completely fireproof and highly resistant to stains, mold, mildew, fading and scratching.
If you simply want to quickly cover a surface and are content with the new deck tiles sitting directly on and following the slope they are laid directly on, consider our 12”x12” and 24”x12” SwiftDeck interlocking Ipe wood tiles with their convenient snap together design for do-it-yourself projects.
Why We Use Ipe Wood
Our structural wood tiles are made solely of Ipe wood. Ipe is one of the most durable hard wood species in the world and is highly resistant to twisting and warping under extreme weather conditions. The benefits of Ipe wood include:
- high resistance to termites, decay and mold
- very hard and dense
- wear resistant and scuff resistant
- Class A fire rating
- high bending and shearing strength
- high resistance to warping and twisting
- weathers without splintering
- lower maintenance than softer and less dense species
Larger, custom Ipe structural tiles are available on special order, but Architrex primarily stocks 24″ x 24″ tiles only, to be used with our fixed height rubber pads or adjustable height pedestal systems. In more humid regions, larger tiles consisting of longer wood slats are more susceptible to warping over time unless they are screwed to a deck joist system.
